WE ARE THE SEEDS PHILLY 2022: A TWO DAY CELEBRATION OF INDIGENOUS ARTS
Friday, November 18 1p-7p + Saturday, November 19 10a-7;30p CHERRY STREET PIER In its third year, We Are the Seeds Philly 2022 includes a fine art show, music, dance, storytelling, interactive art making, a live painting exhibition, panel discussions, and film screenings. Artist booths include carver David Farnham, jewelry designer Tchin, children’s book author Colleen Farwell, and painter Moses Buffalo Boy. The Seeds Stage includes performances by Red Blanket Singers, Silvercloud Singers, The We Are the Seeds Dance Troupe, singer/songwriter Jennifer Kreisberg, The Magic of Storytelling with Tchin, and a panel discussing food sovereignty produced in partnership with Asian Arts Initiative. A film program curated by cinéSPEAK will follow the event on Saturday, November 19 at 4:30p. Cherry Street Pier located at 121 N. Christopher Columbus Blvd, Philadelphia, PA 19106. Native Courting Flute Workshop with Tchin
June 26, July 10, and July 17 Cherry Street Pier We Are the Seeds is creating space for Native and Non-Native individuals to learn from Tchin, an Indigenous Elder musician and culture bearer. Participants will learn to make and play the Native courting flute which has unique historical and cultural significance. They will also have the opportunity to spend quality time with Tchin, learning and having discussions together for cross-cultural understanding. By the end of the three sessions, participants will acquire a solid understanding of this art form. Register here. |
MANIFOLD MEANINGS: INDIGENOUS ART AND PERSPECTIVES

This round table discussion, moderated by Tailinh Agoyo, will feature artist and muralist Priscilla Bell (Taino), playwright and educator Murielle Borst-Tarrant (Kuna/Rappahannock Nations), and multi-disciplinary artist Jason Wesaw (Potawatomi). Together, they will explore the manifold meanings and manifestations of Native art, reflecting a plurality of artistic practices and perspectives, and engaging questions of representation, audience, and culture. Manifold Meanings: Indigenous Art and Perspectives is the inaugural event of “Indigenous Arts in Focus,” a year-long program series at the University of Pennsylvania generously supported by and coordinated in collaboration with The Sachs Program For Arts Innovation, the History of Art Department, We Are the Seeds of CultureTrust, and Natives at Penn.
